Daisy Darker’s family were as dark as dark can be, when one of them died all of them lied and pretended not to see 。 。 。

Daisy Darker is arriving at her grandmother’s house for her eightieth birthday。 It is Halloween, and Seaglass – the crumbling Cornish house perched upon its own tiny private island – is at one with the granite rocks it sits on。 The Darker family haven’t all been in the same place for over a decade, and when the tide comes in they’ll be cut off from the rest of the world for eight hours。 When the tide goes back out, nothing will ever be the same again, because one of them is a killer 。 。 。

BRILLIANT!!! Another unforgettable story by Alice Feeney with a jaw-droppingly good twist at the end! What a dysfunctional family but maybe not so different from many families out there today。 Sisters who hate each other, mothers who have favorites and blame the children for all their missed opportunities, fathers that are missing in action, and an adorable and loving grandmother。 Throw in the mix a good-looking young boy and you have a recipe for disaster。 Oh and let's not forget the creepy old BRILLIANT!!! Does Daisy have a darker side because we all have a little bit of evil in us don't we。。。。。 Alice Feeney is such a clever storyteller。 I discovered her when her first book came out in 2017 called "Sometimes I Lie" and I've been a fan ever since。 If you haven't read her go and grab a copy of this book。 You will not be disappointed!Thank you to Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion 。。。more

I loved this more than I thought。 Wonderfully cleverly written, all the dark spooky atmospheric vibes and unlikeable unreliable characters that I love to hate in thrillers/murder mysteries。Only part that bothered me was the ending by just a bit, I don't know why exactly, I just think this story deserved something a bit better。 But either way, amazing read。 I loved this more than I thought。 Wonderfully cleverly written, all the dark spooky atmospheric vibes and unlikeable unreliable characters that I love to hate in thrillers/murder mysteries。Only part that bothered me was the ending by just a bit, I don't know why exactly, I just think this story deserved something a bit better。 But either way, amazing read。 。。。more

This was my most anticipated book for 2022。 I'm a huge fan of Alice Feeney and she is one of my favorite authors。 Every book I've read by her has been captivating and filled with crazy twists I never saw coming。 Daisy Darker was very interesting and a different premise compared to any other novels I've read。 The isolated Seaglass house creates a creepy dynamic to the story that I really enjoyed。 What I didn't enjoy were the characters (which I guess was intentional), except for Nana。 I wish the This was my most anticipated book for 2022。 I'm a huge fan of Alice Feeney and she is one of my favorite authors。 Every book I've read by her has been captivating and filled with crazy twists I never saw coming。 Daisy Darker was very interesting and a different premise compared to any other novels I've read。 The isolated Seaglass house creates a creepy dynamic to the story that I really enjoyed。 What I didn't enjoy were the characters (which I guess was intentional), except for Nana。 I wish the big twist gave me that gasping moment like Rock Paper Scissors gave me。 The twist also was very unrealistic, too many things didn't add up to me。 The flashbacks were also a little pointless and really didn't provide a lot of back story that was actually needed。 The last 30% of the book really kept me on the edge of my seat though。 I wish I could rate this 5 stars, but definitely still a good read! 。。。more

I wanted to like this more than I did。 I am a fan of twists and turns but in this case I felt like it didn't help the story。 Unexpected? Holy shit!!! Ok…Alice Feeney is my favorite author and a queen!!!! That ending??? Mind。 Blown! Ok I did guess one part of it, but the major twist?! What!? I literally yelled “WHAT!?!?” and scared my cat! Lol。 1) Writing? Superb! 2)Flashbacks? Ugh they got kind of boring until the last 80% or so3) Alice loved writing the word “tut” in this book lol。 All I can say is that I hope she never stops writing because I will literally cry。 A lot。 Lol

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC digital copy。 I was not compensated for this review and all opinions are my own。There were definitely Agatha Christie vibes with this book, but not so much that it competed with other titles。 The storyline was interesting and the mystery kept me guessing。 There was an unseen twist that I thought was going to ruin the ending, but it came back around and finished strong。The audiobook narrator was wonderful! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Read this on Kindle, so I can tell you that exactly 17% was the point where I realised what the twist would be, and for the whole rest of the book, it seemed painfully obvious, with non-stop mentions of people ignoring Daisy or looking “in her direction” instead of at her。 (In this post-Sixth Sense world, I’m surprised any author would pick this as their twist – surely we’re all wise to it?) And it was even earlier than that when I realised who the killer would be – hmm, maybe the one and only character who the author has gone out of her way to tell us, over and over, is a Good Person?Overall, there just wasn’t much I liked about this book。 The writing was weak (and the awful poems really highlighted this)。 The endless pronouncements about what “families are like” or “secrets are like” weren’t half as clever as they thought they were。 The attempts to make the Darkers delightfully whimsical (Nana dressing in only pink and purple, chocolate chips in the mashed potatoes, or whatever it was) felt forced and derivative – Wes Anderson meets the Addams Family? And the characters kind of had to be one-dimensionally awful, in order for us to be OK with them all being slaughtered。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book。 While I did guess part of the ending there were things I did not expect。 A fun quick read。

I enjoyed this。 A fun modern update of And Then There Were None。 yes, you can figure this out but I didn't figure out the complete scenario(view spoiler)[ i'm not sure i fully bought into Nana's motivations based on what Trixie had to share。 I think I might have enjoyed it even more if she had also killed Trixie and then herself and done away with this entire awful family (hide spoiler)] I enjoyed this。 A fun modern update of And Then There Were None。 yes, you can figure this out but I didn't figure out the complete scenario(view spoiler)[ i'm not sure i fully bought into Nana's motivations based on what Trixie had to share。 I think I might have enjoyed it even more if she had also killed Trixie and then herself and done away with this entire awful family (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

2。5/5Shitty family reunions where everyone low-key hates eachother? Love。 DEATH? Love! An isolated setting and atmosphere for days? Adore! Predictable twists, cringeworthy villainous monologues, and that bullshit third act? Not so much。 What the hell was that, Alice ????? This latest book reminded me of [redacted] and I’m pissed off that I had to read all THAT for…。 that。 Overlong, overwrought, and just overall unsatisfactory。

Quick read 。 Was OK - Will recommend- BOTM selection

Another 5 ⭐️ thriller by Alice! I love all her books and ability to bring in dark twists to her plots。 This one is a psychological thriller with some dark family dynamics。 Who doesn’t love murder and family drama, I know I do!

Ok…this book was a roller coaster for me。 Initially I was hooked, then not so much。 I spent half of it thinking, this will be a 3 star review。 But after finishing I want to re-read it。 All and all, very good。

This was a very engaging book about a dysfunctional family until the very disappointing ending which was confusing and poorly executed。

This is an exceptionally well written story about a dysfunctional family reuniting for the grandmother's 80th birthday and being killed in a "And Then There Were None" kind of way。 Unfortunately, I disliked the whole family intensely so never really got into the story even though I had to finish it to find out who done it。 This is an exceptionally well written story about a dysfunctional family reuniting for the grandmother's 80th birthday and being killed in a "And Then There Were None" kind of way。 Unfortunately, I disliked the whole family intensely so never really got into the story even though I had to finish it to find out who done it。 。。。more
